Methyl ethyl ketone peroxide is a colorless chemical substance with the chemical formula C8H18O6, whose structure is as follows:
Methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) is an oily and colorless liquid and is an organic peroxide. This substance is very explosive. Methyl ethyl ketone peroxide burns the skin severely and can cause eye damage or blindness. In the industry, it is used as a catalyst in baking unsaturated polyester resins, fiberglass, plastics, and in casting. For this purpose, ethyl methyl ketone peroxide is dissolved in dimethyl phthalate and diallyl phthalate to reduce the sensitivity of this material to shock and make it easy to use. For resins, methyl ethyl ketone peroxide should be used together with cobalt salts, which are usually cobalt naphthenate or cobalt octoate, and if needed, with amines or inhibitors. This material is soluble in dimethyl phthalate, cyclohexane peroxide and diallyl peroxide.
Storage conditions
Store in a dry and cool environment with proper ventilation, away from sources of heat, ignition and direct sunlight, and keep at a temperature of 5-35 degrees Celsius. To store it, standard containers should be used (do not use metal containers in any way).
